Over the last decade, I’ve been fortunate to work at some top tier companies, including Google and Uber. In that time, I’ve also helped friends, family, former colleagues, and even strangers on the internet achieve some huge career goals: landing promotions, getting offers to join dream industries/companies, and negotiating huge salary increases, among others.
Even though I’ve been amazingly fortunate in my career, I didn’t get here through family connections or even having attended an elite school. (Neither of my parents graduated from college, and I attended Penn State on an honors scholarship.) Instead, I was able to work my way up by applying smart strategies to get noticed, get my resume to the top of the stack, land interviews, and then show that I was the right person for the job.
